Guide to a Qualified Repair Facility
There are many operating repair shops in this city. Therefore,
a long list exists for you to choose from. We feel it
is necessary that you read our guide in order for you to sift
out the unqualified facilities and choose one that will repair
your vehicle correctly and efficiently. Please read through
our list of recommendations:
1. Never
choose a facility only because your insurance company recommends
that one.
Some insurance companies will attempt to influence your freedom
to choose the shop of your choice by "Steering" or "Directing" you
to one of their preferred shops or direct repair program. By
California law "Steering" is illegal. An insurance
company can suggest or recommend one of their shops they are contracted
with but you are not obligated to use thier choice. Please
visit the web sites listed above. Remember you are the vehicle
owner and only you can make the choice on who should
repair your vehicle.
2. Ask how long the repair
facility has been in business under the same ownership. Repair
shops that have been in business for a long time often have
been because they are well-run facilities and have treated their
customers well. Most businesses cannot stay in business long
if their customers do not come back or recommend friends. A
bad reputation spreads quickly and can put any repair facility
out of business.
3. Ask what type of equipment the
facility has invested in. High quality repairs
require a facility that has invested in the necessary equipment.
Examples of such equipment are the following:
- Paint spray booths that have downdraft
flow and heated systems will give the best results
in paint curing.
- Frame machines that require highly
skilled technicians.
- Electronic equipment such as scanners
are able to accurately diagnose and repair SRS restraint
systems, ABS Brake Systems, Check Engine Warning Lamps, fault
code clearing and ECU programming.
- Be aware that most body shops including the insurance
companies preferred body shops; are not able to perform these
types of repairs because they simply do not have the
equipment, knowledge or the technicians to complete
the repairs on your vehicle.
Therefore, they need to sublet your vehicle to a repair
facility that is able to accurately complete those
repairs. With the vast technology of new cars, it
is important that you choose a shop that has the
latest state of the art equipment.
4. How professional is the management
staff? Are the management staff members courteous
and professional? It is important to be aware of how the
staff conducts themselves. The way they interact with you, is probably
how they interact with others including their technicians
and your insurance company.
5. How clean is the facility? All
businesses should be neat, clean and organized including repair
facilities. A clean shop and office reflects work ethic;
if a repair shop is clean and organized, chances are your car will
reap the benefits.
